Independent Quantitative Model & Strategy Validation
Challenge a strategy or model's evidence before an implementation or investment decision.
What needs to stand up to scrutiny?
Backtest results can be distorted by look-ahead effects, revision handling, selection bias, unrealistic market assumptions and unstable parameter choices. Independent analysis must be able to disagree with the original research.
Problems we can examine.
Every engagement requires an agreed use case, available inputs and reviewable acceptance criteria.
Reproduce reported signals and results using independently defined baselines and holdout rules.
Assess statistical uncertainty, multiple testing, sensitivity, regime dependence and benchmark choice.
Review implementation costs, risk assumptions, failure scenarios and the limits of model use.
A clear sequence of evidence.
The activities below describe potential scope rather than completed work or guaranteed outcomes.
Reconstruct the claim
Identify exactly which proposition the model or strategy is intended to support.
Reproduce the evidence
Examine provenance, code logic, sampling, timestamp conventions and reported metrics.
Challenge robustness
Use appropriate null tests, benchmark comparisons, perturbations and scenario analyses.
Issue a reasoned outcome
Document findings, restrictions, residual uncertainties and the conditions for rejection or rework.
Evidence you can inspect.
Outputs depend on the defined mandate. They are not representations of historical client performance, live signals or a regulated financial service.
- Independent validation protocol and evidence register
- Data and methodology review
- Replication, robustness and benchmark findings
- Model risk, limitations and remediation recommendations
- Strategy Validation Report (SVR) when included in scope
Who this may suit: Investment research groups, systematic managers, fintech developers and institutional teams requiring independent scrutiny of models or backtests.
Before defining a mandate.
Is this an audit or regulatory certification?
No certification is implied. The engagement scope, independence, applicable standards and intended use must be agreed in writing.
Can a validation report reject a strategy?
Yes. An independent review may identify insufficient evidence, unresolved model risk or a need to redesign an approach.
Will confidential strategy code be published?
No publication is presumed. Data handling and intellectual-property rights are specified in the engagement agreement.
These are examples of potential quantitative research, validation or engineering work. No performance, regulatory approval, customer engagement or live financial product is implied. Availability is assessed individually and any permitted delivery requires the appropriate agreements and authorisations.
Start with your model, strategy or analytical question.
Describe the objective, instruments, available data, timing assumptions and constraints. We can discuss an appropriate evidence-led scope.
